What is the Political Courage Test?

New York Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Although I can sympathize with those who are pro-life, I note that a state cannot stop abortions; it can only make safe abortions illegal. I also note that unless voters are against all war and capital punishment, they are not pro-life. I encourage all states to get abortion rights legislation on the books so that the overturning of Roe v. Wade is not a constant threat.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
I support ending the debt-back currency of the Federal Reserve, ending income tax for the bottom 90%, funding infrastructure assets directly with Treasury "Greenbacks" without taxing, allowing the public to access affordable health care (sliding scale fees) at public hospitals without having to pay a tax or insurance premium, and cutting the war budget, so that we can use corporate tax revenue to buy back bonds and then reduce taxes for small corporations and cooperative corporations. Social Security can be means tested and those making minimum/low wage should be progressively exempt from making contributions but still eligible to collect.
No Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I prefer to reduce the power of representatives by giving the people veto power. This will prevent representatives from being able to sell their votes to lobbyists against the will of their constituents.
No Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
I will vote to end qualified immunity.
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
End all Wars. Our national security depends upon domestic self-sufficiency and ending our aggression abroad. We simply cannot afford the terrible loss of human life, damage to the environment, economic expense and refugee crises that U.S. involvement in foreign affairs causes. I advocate slashing the military and intelligence budgets to a figure adequate for maintaining a strong defense only. Funding wars and making surplus offensive weaponry creates enemies and makes us less safe, not more safe. To decrease our vulnerability to attack, we should also strive toward energy independence and decentralize and localize our communication, energy, and food production systems.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
Any spending should be done because people need infrastructure or a service, not to stimulate the economy. Corporate taxes could be lowered to bring manufacturing back to the US, to stabilize the economy, not to make it grow artificially. Businesses should not have been shut down due to Covid. People who are at risk could have been offered help and/or disability payments. Covid was used as an excuse to give the 1% trillions of dollars. If anything I would like to see a 50K per individual debt jubilee for the bottom 90% and let the big banks go under.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
The top-down control of education needs to end, at the Federal and state levels. Educational professionals, together with parents and students, should decide the curriculum and standards.
No Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I offer a Gold New Deal: 1. End all war. The Dept of Defense is the largest polluter. 2. End all subsidies to the fossil fuel industry. 3. End all subsidies of corn and soy production and Big Ag generally.4. Do not roll out an energy intensive "smart" spy grid. 5. Turn the energy grid into a free market cooperative where small and large energy producers can connect directly with consumers. 6. Do not pass carbon taxing/trading. Such legislation is always written in favor of big energy producers.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I am concerned about the very serious problem of violence in the US, which I see as a cultural problem. Our legislators, military, and police resort to force to "solve" problems and this just creates more problems. In parallel, the entertainment industry glorifies killing people in war and crime fighting, such that many Americans have developed gun fetishes. Government needs to lead by example and end the militarization of police and the many illegal wars abroad. The 2nd Amendment is more important now than ever as a deterrent to government force as we teeter on the brink of fascism.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
No Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
It is the government's responsibility to provide assistance to at-risk groups during a pandemic. Please see my "Voluntary Health for All" public health care plan.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Immigrants were allowed to come in illegally in order to provide corporations with cheap labor, while the government looked the other way. Those who have been here for a decade or more being productive members of society should be given a path to citizenship.
No Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
None of these wars protect us or make us more secure.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
A LOW tariff on ALL imports should be used as a source of Federal revenue, not as a means to manipulate markets or to provide protection for weak U.S. industries. Current trade agreements allow government to subsidize and promote, for example, corn production in the U.S. to the detriment of other kinds of crop production. Such agreements not only distort U.S. industry but can also adversely affect the local economies of trading partners and force migration of cheap labor to the U.S., which, in turn, further harms the U.S. labor market. I am also against all sanctions.
Allowing the Federal Reserve to create dollars has allowed the top 10% to get control of most of the money and political power. The Treasury should have the sole power to create US dollars, and only for public infrastructure projects: roads, mass transit, hospitals, energy grids, schools, and fiber broadband. New dollars created for these purposes would be backed by the value of the infrastructure assets that will return user fees. This would reduce or eliminate taxes for bottom 90%. The Treasury should not try to manage the economy, set interest rates, nor loan or borrow money.
